Center for behavior health to hold webinar about opioid crisis impact on children

The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development will hold a webinar Wednesday on the opioid crisis.

The webinar will be hosted by Dr. Jonathan Davis and Dr. Sharon Levy and will focus on the opioid crisis impact on children.

Davis will discuss the short- and long-term impact of prenatal drug exposure on infants while Levy will discuss what makes adolescents particularly vulnerable to substance use and to developing substance-use problems.

The doctors will also discuss the correlation between early substance-use initiation and substance-use disorders and will describe a model for integrating into pediatric primary care substance-use early intervention and treatment.

Davis is vice-chairman of Pediatrics and Chief of Newborn Medicine at the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center and professor of Pediatrics at Tufts University School of Medicine. He also serves as the International Neonatal Consortium director and Neonatal Advisory Committee chairman in the Food and Drug Administration’s Office of the Commissioner.

Levy is a developmental-behavioral pediatrician, addiction medicine specialist and associate professor at Harvard Medical School. She also is the director of the Adolescent Substance Use and Addiction Program at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse president.
